What makes the Stem Cell so important to Biotechnology is its remarkable ability to copy itself as another cell, that other wise had been lost or damaged. In recent times, this has sparked the interest of the scientific community. Since Stem Cells can duplicate most other cells, the idea of them being able to regenerate tissue, which is just a group of cells, is not out of the question. In fact, just recently breakthroughs in the scientific community have been acknowledged.

The focus of our Stem Cell research is that of tissue regeneration. Stem Cells have the capability of copying itself into different cells, which makes regeneration possible, but unlike most Stem Cell research dealing with the nervous system, our topic is the regenerative properties and capabilities of certain Stem Cells in other parts of the body.

It used to be that the only way of regenerating any tissue in the body using stem cells was to use embryonic stem cells, which are the one obtained in fertilized zygotes, but lately research has shown that there is a way of regenerating tissue without them. Research has shown that tissue in the body could be regenerated with not just Embryonic Stem Cells, but with Adult Stem Cells, which are far more common, easier to obtain, and, what some people consider, more ethical. These Adult Stem Cells are found in numerous places in the body, but most often they are extracted from umbilical tissue. And what gives Adult Stem cells regenerative properties is that these stem cells can be made to act like embryonic stem cells the more potent and more quantity. These specific Stem Cells are minutely located in the formation of scars, which is a form of regeneration in itself.
